Have you always been in real estate? If no, what’s your background?
I have always been in real estate. I started before I even finished school! When I was in year 11, I did some admin work in the property management team for a small agency in Pymble. Then when I finished, it was easy for me to just transition into working full-time because I already had a feel for it. I then moved to McMahons Point and worked there for about 3 and a half years building my own portfolio before joining McConnell Bourn.

Why real estate?
I think it always sparked interest in me. I love that when you are in real estate not everyday is the same, you never know what to expect on any given day. I think that real estate is an industry that is hard to compare with any other. It always caught my eye and I couldn’t think of anything else quite like it.

What made you want to become a property manager?
What I find most appealing about property management is that everything is really structured and because of that you can keep things organised relatively easily! Even if we can spend quite a bit of time chasing our tails. I also really like that you have to be an expert in property management, you are often responsible for educating landlords and tenants as to their responsibilities & rights, and I just think that is really interesting.

What qualities do you think you need to be a great property manager?
The number one thing you need as a property manager is great communication. It’s not the only thing, but you cannot work in property management without it. Fact is, you need to be constantly engaging in conversations with your landlords, an update simply to let them know that everything is running smoothly is important. The same goes for your tenants, you always want to have an open line of communication with them, even if it’s just so you can get in front of an issue before it snowballs. I think this really needs to be drilled into property managers from the start, this actually goes all the way back to when I was doing my interview with Matt & Suzanne, I remember they asked me “are you reactive? or proactive?” and it’s a really good question because in property management, you have to be proactive.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I think most people will say the same but I really like the social aspect of it. Every single day you are meeting different people. When it comes specifically to property management it would have to be the importance, in many cases not only are you looking after a landlord’s home, but you are also helping tenants find the perfect home, no matter how temporary. You are responsible for one of the biggest elements of their lives & you are helping people, and in doing it well you find yourself building really strong relationships with clients.

What are three things you couldn’t live without?
My dog, Ace, wine & I want to say my handbag, but I would definitely have to say my family.

Where is your favourite place in the world? Whether it’s your couch at home or a cafe?
I would have to say Cairo. I have a very strong connection to the city that stems from when I travelled there a couple of years ago. Being there was very eye-opening & I can vividly remember how it felt to be standing in the middle of Cairo CBD by the Nile.

Do you have a secret talent? If so what is it?
None at all, if I had to say something it would have to be that I’m a pretty good cook.

What do you love most about MB?
I’ve worked with a couple of different agencies before MB and they were all reasonably small and in being so small you were almost forced to get along with everybody. But it’s different in MB, everybody gets along really well, all the personalities compliment each other very well, even with the stronger personalities that you come across in real estate, it all balances out. Outside of that it would have to be McConnell Bourn’s reputation, our team, our branding and our marketing. MB is definitely one of the industry leaders and being part of it makes me feel proud.
