Have you always been in real estate? If no, what’s your background?
Not really, when I finished high school I started studying and working in fashion. I started off by studying fashion business and design at FBI Fashion College which led to internships in fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and I even worked a little bit with Vogue. One of the most interesting experiences though, would have to be when I worked alongside a freelance stylist who styled many of the shoots for Hermès & Prada!

Why real estate?
Well, whilst I was studying, working and interning, I was approached by a family member (who works in real estate). She asked me to come and work with her as her assistant and at the time I thought “no way, I would never work in real estate”. Surely enough, I was worn down by the fashion industry and I needed to move on to something different. Considering she had already made the offer I thought it would be a good idea simply to try it out. I worked with her for 7 months, moved on to work alongside an agent who was, at the time, a leading agent in Turramurra and shortly after that I moved here to McConnell Bourn.

What made you want to become an agent?
Well what many people don’t actually know about me is that I am a really process-driven person, so when it comes to the sales side of this industry, it is important to stick to the system. Interestingly, I think that the retail industry and the real estate industry are actually quite similar. They are both service industries, so my love for people really just helped me fall in love with it. So in this industry where it is a marriage between systems and people, I feel that it is a perfect fit.

What qualities do you think you need to be a great agent?
You most definitely have to be disciplined. You don’t have anybody standing over you, monitoring you and making sure you are always working, so that also means being self-motivated. I think you also have to be a people-person and have a willingness to put others before yourself. Lastly, negotiation skills, but I believe that goes without saying.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
My favourite thing about my job, no matter how cliché it sounds, is most definitely getting to meet and talk to new people every single day.

What are three things you couldn’t live without?
My mobile phone, my friends and family, and red wine.

Where is your favourite place in the world? Whether it’s your couch at home or a cafe?
Well my favourite place in the world would have to be New York, but more specifically, a little cafe called The Butcher’s Daughter, in Lower Manhattan. They do the most amazing coffee!

Do you have a secret talent? If so, what is it?
This most definitely isn’t a secret talent per se, but I have really good taste, as in I can match wine and food really well.

What do you love most about MB?
Well I think that the marketing goes without saying, we have a great team here who provide quality marketing materials and really have the marketing sorted. Otherwise, it would have to be the overwhelming support from the managing directors. Matt, Sam and Suzanne play such an important role and yet they still make time to support the team in the day to day.
