Have you always been in real estate? If no, what’s your background?
No I haven’t actually, I used to work in the aviation industry. I was a flight attendant for about 12 years! Then I had the next 10 years at home with my young family before getting into real estate.

Why real estate?
Weirdly, it was kind of by default. I had a very good friend whose husband ran a real estate agency and one morning when we were out for our daily jog she said “you’d be fabulous in real estate” as she knew I was looking to get back into work and it just went from there!

What made you want to become an agent?
I was very lucky to get a job as an assistant in another agency. Shortly after starting there I realised I wanted to become an agent. I gave myself a goal to work my way up to become an agent within a year. Then not long after, to my elation and surprise, McConnell Bourn approached me to join the team as an agent. Many people thought it was too early and tried to convince me that I needed more experience in an assistant role, but I felt that I was ready and just took the leap of faith!

What qualities do you think you need to be a great agent?
You need to be organised, committed, hardworking, passionate, driven and empathetic. Nobody is perfect but I truly believe that you need a combination of all of these attributes and you need to be able to apply them as needed.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
The people, just the vast range of personalities you get to meet everyday. It’s ever changing, it’s never dull, it’s never the same.

What's the funniest or most embarrassing moment you've ever had at work?
I would have to say that we are very lucky here to have a great team of people and whether it’s work or play, it’s just fun! We have a particularly fun office in Lindfield with a great gang. I can’t exactly pinpoint a specific point in time. Every McConnell Bourn function gets better and better, without getting into too much detail! But honestly, whether it’s work or play it’s always fun.

What do you like about working in a team with Scott Phillips?
Scotty and I are two vastly different personalities but we are like a great jigsaw puzzle, we just fit together. We keep each other honest and driven and we share common goals and work ethics.

How did you guys end up working together?
We both started working at McConnell Bourn on the same day and both of us were new to the role! We formed a friendship early on and when hitting the streets to doorknock our core areas, we would often be texting one another excitedly saying “I got an appraisal!”. We started a friendly competition and from there, we saw the benefit of working as a team.

What makes you a great team?
We are both dynamic and just get in and do the work. Scotty brings his strengths to the team that are my weaknesses and vice versa. We are both great communicators so if there is ever an issue we can just knuckle it down rather than tiptoeing around it.

What are three things you couldn’t live without?
Coffee, wine and exercise. Not in that order!

Where is your favourite place in the world? Whether it’s your couch at home or a cafe?
My bed! I don’t know what it is but it’s like the go ahead, permission to rest.

Do you have a secret talent? If so, what is it??
Yes, but I’m not telling!

What do you love most about MB?
It’s an intimate and family owned business rather than a big corporation. This was particularly noticeable coming from a corporate-style environment. It’s warm and familiar here at McConnell Bourn and the support from my colleagues is great, you couldn’t ask for more than that.
